DC break the MI hoodoo at last!

The curse is lifted! DC have ended their four-game losing spree against MI to overcome the defending champions in their first outing in Chennai. Excellent allround effort from the 2020 finalists to hand MI their second defeat of the season. Add to the fact that DC have hardly had a training session in Chennai after only arriving yesterday, it makes the victory seem even sweeter for Rishabh Pant's side. Dhawan was once again pivotal but Lalit Yadav's ability to hold his nerve till the very end was commendable. MI have been off-colour by their standards so far, and will hope to pull up much better going forward.

Bumrah dents DC

Is that a game-turning dismissal? Top class bowling from Bumrah, not affording the opposition skipper any room for playing his cheeky shots. Pant was in the mood for premeditation, and Bumrah sensed. He unfurled a full, slower ball that messed with Pant's plans. The ball flew but off a thick top-edge and Krunal Pandya took a sharp, low catch.

Shikhar Dhawan falls at crucial juncture

What an eventful over this, right after the strategic timeout. DC needed 48 off 36, but Dhawan began the Rahul Chahar over with a six and a four. But an attempt to go big again brought about his downfall, leaving DC in a tricky position.

Pollard ends Steve Smith's resolve

Oh there's the breakthrough MI were looking for. Excellent bowling change from Rohit Sharma. Smith was batting well, but looked to shuffle across and play this one from Pollard. He missed and got struck plumb in front. No review needed, and DC are two down.

Smith, Dhawan rebuild...

The target not being too much is keeping DC in the game here as the scoring has been restricted well by MI. Smith and Dhawan on their part haven't seen reason to take any big risks. They're moving along at a little over six-an-over but the asking rate itself is only a little over seven.

Jayant Yadav strikes!

Mumbai's man with the golden arm never disappoints. He comes on and gets Shaw to chip one straight back to him in just the second over. This chase is not going to be straightforward for DC.

Early escape for Shikhar Dhawan

That was a superb effort from Hardik Pandya to take a good, forward-diving catch. But replays show Hardik grassed it. Lucky escape for the DC opener.

MI finish with 137/9

The defending champions just couldn't find a way back once Rohit Sharma's breezy stay was brought to an end at the halfway stage. Amit Mishra returned to show he's still got the skills to outfox oppositions at this level. Avesh Khan has grown into this season, and finished with 2 for 15.

Four for Mishra!

What an inspired selection from DC, this. Mishra has walked into the side and rattled the most potent batting order in the league. Ishan Kishan is his latest victim, who chopped one onto the stumps. The ball lobbed up and fell right on top of a bail, dislodging it.

A late flourish for MI will be largely dependent on how long Ishan Kishan can hang around and push his team. A score near (or even in excess of) 150 could be a good total here. Although, the towels are already out and in use so dew has started to make its presence felt.

Amit Mishra again!

Kieron Pollard didn't read that googly one bit and camped on the backfoot against a ball that turned into him. He missed and got hit on the line, and the umpired ruled in Mishra's favour. The West Indian reviewed but it was umpire's call on hitting, so he had to walk back for a low score.

What a moment for Lalit Yadav. The spinner has his maiden IPL wicket! Krunal Pandya didn't read the arm ball and ended up chopping the ball on while trying to dab the ball down to third man. What a situation MI find themselves in here.

Amit Mishra wins Round 2 v Rohit Sharma

7 times! 7 times now Rohit has fallen to the veteran leg-spinner. Rohit was looking to continue playing his shots and take Mishra to the cleaners, but wasn't finding the right timing. He still got a four, but the struggle to middle the ball was clear. Mishra saw Rohit's tentativeness and further reduced the pace on his delivery, luring Rohit to dance down the track. Rohit looked to go big down the ground but didn't get the distance, and ended up hitting straight to Steve Smith at long on.

Mishra then lures Hardik Pandya to go the same route and the MI all-rounder takes the bait. Another simple catch for Smith and MI are four down.

Avesh Khan strikes!

The young pacer has done exactly what DC needed - a breakthrough to end the threatening second-wicket stand that had very swiftly added 58 runs. A length ball slightly outside the off-stump and Suryakumar looked to cut it late down to third man, but ended up playing it straight to Pant behind the stumps.

Rabada in the PowerPlay may not have been a good idea...
